Fly Private 25 Hours at a Time
by Aaron Sobel
What’s better than having your own private jet? Using somebody else’s. Clearly, people have warmed up to the idea of sharing. More than four million Americans now have fractional ownerships (or timeshares) of vacation properties, boosting the industry to an all-time high of $10 billion. It should come as no surprise then that air travel is following suit.
Once reserved for those who owned their own jets, today’s private aviation set is now populated by the “millionaires next door”. This shift has been the result of revolutionary companies like The Berkshire Hathaway company NetJets—the pioneer and worldwide leader in fractional jet ownership—and its exclusive partner, Marquisjet.
Today’s first-class fliers have access to a managed fleet of more than 740 private planes and experienced pilots. Instead of paying by the flight, however, Marquisjet Card Owners simply purchase a flat-rate of “occupied hourly” flight time in 25-hour increments on NetJets’ aircraft—without any long-term commitment. For anywhere from $127,000 to $350,000 (depending on the type of aircraft selected) card members enjoy all of the rights and privileges available to NetJets’ Fractional Owners: guaranteed flight availability 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in any of 10 types of aircraft, to anywhere in North America or Europe. (If a selected aircraft isn’t available, a complimentary upgrade is provided.)
Since its partnership began in 2001, Marquis has been recognized as the best jet card program in the industry by the likes of Business Traveler Magazine and Robb Report. Over 3,000 clients strong and growing fast, Marquisjet isn’t showing any signs of slowing down...unlike the security screening lines at LAX.
