Golf Getaway

Home to some of the world’s premiere golf courses, Los Angeles-area private links are the favorite of hackers and pros alike. Toss in the picture-perfect climate and, in most cases, the short shot to downtown, and the magic gets that much better. CSQ’s golfers toured local courses and now dutifully present our top seven favorites.

El Caballero Country Club

{Tarzana, CA}

Open for play in 1954, El Caballero Country Club is considered by many as the most exclusive country club in the San Fernando Valley. With over 71 sand bunkers, tight tree-lined fairways, and very large and fast putting surfaces, it is as challenging as it is lush and beautiful. Nicknamed “El Cab,” it has served as host multiple times to the PGA U.S. Open Qualifier and was site of the Office Depot/City of Hope LPGA Championship from 2002-2004.

It has also welcomed three major championships to its site, the first being the 1948 U.S. Open, won by golf legend Ben Hogan.
