Jodye Marder, the owner of JGirl in Westlake Village has taken an approach that Uptown hasn’t really seen. She opened a lingerie and cosmetics store in a fairly conservative area, stocked it with high-end and affordable products, some proprietary cosmetics and unique gift items and gives provides excellent customer service. Everyone that walks through her doors gets a personalized shopping experience. Jodye believes that a client isn’t just another buyer and that you have to get to know someone before you can sell them something perfect for their taste and liking. With changing rooms in the back and the ultra knowledgeable staff, clients walk out of Jodye’s store “feeling the best, no matter who the person is. It doesn’t matter what size you are, there is something for everyone. It’s about finding the right product and fit.”
Jodye speaks from experience having been a make-up artist for 25 years and a strong passion for helping people look their best. “When you look good, you feel good.”
This diva entrepreneur not only balances her personal life (a husband that practices law and two daughers) along with the store, but she also believes that you are only as good as your staff. Jodye employs only the best and most knowledgeable beauty professionals that compliment each other’s work and personalities. She says they“truly care as much about the store as I do.” One way that Jodye keeps such a tight group at the shop is by helping to make everyone feel like it is their shop too and that they are all apart of helping something grow and succeed. “My staff has such a sense of pride for the store; we all work from the heart and the customers definitely feel it.”
Jodye’s goals for the future are to increase the awareness of her store. Those looking to go over the hill to find what they need can actually find much more right in their own backyard.
